Welcome to the Blog Thing
Soooooo... I mean I’ve wanted to do this blog thing for a while, but I just haven’t gotten to it. Ya know? Like I mean it’s a priorities thing but I’ve finally gotten to it and the rock chip in my window can stay for a few more days. So HELLO. My names Danielle, friends call me Dani, some call me b*tch-ass. I am an amazing dancer after a glass of wine and a fan of chesses (not a vegan blog sorry 2019.)
So what kind of blog is it Danielle? (said no one)
Good question. I’m not sure. I’m just gonna do whatever the heck I want. Share some music stuff. Share some tips and tricks pretending like I know what I’m talking about. Ya know bloggy things.
A bit about me:
I’ve grown up on my family dairy farm with my very sarcastic, funny and loving Mum and Dad & 3 siblings so I know what it feels like to be roasted. Maybe that’s why I’m not afraid of the internet, cause whatever you say, I’m sure my brother has already beat you to it.
“Do you have horses”
No. (I said Dairy Farm). We did have a horse once when I was like 4 or 5 and her name was kisska (I honestly don’t know how you spell it but it sounds just like how I wrote it- moving on) I also had this weird thing with rabbits. Like I always got them but didn’t 100% take care of them but I love(d) them. Not sure why tho cause they ligit don’t do anything and will bite you haphazardly. Growing up over the years we had lots of chickens, a few goats, (we named one Gomez, the mascot from that episode of That’s So Raven- If you don’t know what I’m talking about I have attached a link to jog your memory.) some sheep, a lama, wild cats (and we would spend summers catching them and making them our friends), a donkey, dogos that like to chase coyotes, turkeys, pigs, and wait for it… an alpaca. I never really understood why we had the alpaca. But we did. And he would escape and people would be like, “hey man your alpaca is chilling at the end of the road”
I grew up playing basketball my whole life, it was kinda like a thing that my family [does]. I also was in Musical Theatre #BoxStep and once tried figure skating but my Mom warned me I would have to wake up at 5am if I wanted to advance and 10 year-old me was not down for that.
So, I guess now you could say I’m a singer. I mean, I’m technically a server at this fancy-ass trendy restaurant. But I’m a singer. What started off as a hobby has now become something more. I love to sing and write songs and have since I was in 8th grade. Lots has happened in those 10 years with music…
Here’s a censored short version:
I got a golden ticket on that show the Next Star, which might I add; was the shit back in the day, then lost it.
I was in this contest with a local Magazine but it was a band contest- and I didin’t have a band -so I made a band- and then got 2nd in the contest. We played live at this club downtown which was so sick cause we were so underage. Then we did this dramatic clothing change on stage. I live for that shit. ( click here for footage of said live clothing change) Got some recording time and a bit of cash.
Entered every singing contest around and lost to a bunch of Karaoke kids. Drag.
Got braces and some Youtube recognition on cover videos I would film with my brother. One of them hit 20k which was a big deal- and my face was painted like a tiger. (those videos are gone so don’t even try)
Then I was in some random McDonalds contest- that’s right McDons has a singing contest. And it’s a big deal. Got some more recording time then they flew me and my Brother to Toronto (cause I was underage he had to come muahaha) I competed against other McDonlad’s employees and won all this loot and Liz Trinnear hosted. The most random, most best adventure ever. Would you like fries with that?
Lost some more contests.
Won 10 grand in the Chevrolet Tailgate Contest. This contest was hosted by CMT and Chevrolet. I made the investment and bought a flight to Ontario with my Mom to compete against a few others at the Havelock Jamboree. I sang a song I wrote called “Shotgun Chevrolet” in the back of a pick-up truck…then there was online voting. (God Bless online voting *sarcasm) SO HAPPY I won that thing and the money got directly sent to a producer to do some more recording.
Went to college for a few years and studied music. LEARNED SO MUCH. (and I was also an English minor- wanted to leave that out cause, like, look at this writing. (Please don’t hold it against me)
Played some dive bars and some pretty rad gigs. Usually wore an outfit that my mom stitched for me. (Insert photo below)
Made it into the CCMA Discovery Program in 2016. Learned more than I ever even thought was possible. Grew lots over that year; finding a vision for my music and confidence in myself. Had some great opportunities. Made some great friends- Love you Libby J. Got bangs.
Changed my name from Dani Elle (r.i.p.) to Danielle Ryan
“Is that superstar Dani Elle from TV”
Started working with an indy label/ Artist development type thing
Did my first songwriting trip to Nashville… we can talk more about that another time.
Parted ways with said indy label after a few years…
So now what’s happening right?? Well, I guess you could say I am somewhat a wandering gypsy when I comes to these things. I just take and make the opportunities as they come to me. Like.. I got an acting agent and then booked a commercial… random… never thought I would be doing that, but the opportunity came up and I was like okay yeah. And it tuns out I really like acting. I have went on a couple more songwriting trips to Nash. Still learning how to use Logic Pro (my enemy and friend) Started back on Youtube, Got baptized, Learned how to make really good Iced Coffee, And I’m marrying my best friend here shortly. (yay)
Really, I’m just taking it day-by-day. I think it’s when you get tunnel vision and start to compare yourself to other people that it becomes not so fun. I’m learning to trust in God’s plan. To enjoy the journey and to not focus so much on the destination, (omgsh I’m quoting my bf he says that to me all the time.) We always want more, there is always another shiny thing to chase- and I think I’m pretty happy living life rn.
Anyway, there’s blog #1. Thanks Mom for being the only one to read this and probably my big sister Amanda.
